Hello, Adventure-Raisers!
I know… I broke my promise. I said I’d update every week, and then just when things seemed to be getting good, or at least when it felt like I had a lot of material, I ducked out. For a while. I’m so sorry.
I know I don’t have a fanbase to disappoint yet, but still. I don’t have any reason other than… well, burnouts and distractions. The world changed a lot in the last for weeks, and like a moth to the flame I had to watch it. By the time I was done watching it every day, I couldn’t find the humor in memes or the energy to write. I put down my phone and played with my son and went to bed. I joked in my very first post about how I started this blog in an election year, and boy howdy, was that weirdly prophetic.
Admittedly, the pod I normally play RPGs with is… more politically divided than we are cohesive. And from that, the association of the election cycle with D&D made it hard for me to feel like Nat20Mom at all. But you know what? We had our first session since the election yesterday, and you’d never know it to see us. The dice rolled the same. The funny voices were the same. We overcame the same scheduling conflicts, and we ate the same takeout. We didn’t need to talk about what was wrong or right in the real world while we were trying to fix the DM’s world. I heard someone say once that “art is how our souls communicate,” and it was a good reminder that this is my art. We are friends, neighbors, and dare I say found family, despite our differences.
I wish Little Dragon was old enough to see it all the way I did. How the group can be together in spite of it all is a lesson I desperately want our children to learn. To have a pod like this. To MAINTAIN a pod like this, build on respect as well as fondness.
That’s all the musing I have for today, and for a first post back I think it’s more than enough, haha.
I think the current weekly format will need to be a goal and not a hard deadline for me, because I’ve learned that I need to keep this fun. I have a bit of a habit of turning my fun projects into… just projects. Memes will still come through the week as I think of them, of course, so don’t worry.
With that, I wish you all a good week, and remember:
You are not on this journey alone.
